BRINGING OUR FAMILY TRADITION
TO YOU
OUR STORY
We are a family business spread between the Amalfi Coast Italy and Perth Western Australia. We have a long history of ceramics in our family starting from Caterina's dad, Raffaele Apicella. The age-old craft of creating ceramics is being carried on by Caterina's family and our skilled group of professional artisans.
Raffaele has been making ceramics since he was 8 years old and is currently 93, still working everyday. He used to ride his bike everyday to Positano and learn the tricks of the trade, which have now been carried into his work and passed down.
Caterina moved from her town, and is now bringing her family tradition to your home. Alongside her two daughters, Alessia and Silvia she hopes to bring to life the feeling of home she has grown up with and channeled in her family.
You will find many traditional symbols throughout all our ceramics. We hope to convey the sunshine, blue skies, leafy greens, and Mediterranean way of life through our handmade pieces. Generations of Italian artists have drawn inspiration from such symbols and we continue to do so as we feel it demonstrates the warmth of our origins - the Amalfi Coast!
Benvenuto Apicella
CERAMIC ARTIST
Benvenuto Apicella is an extremely talented ceramic artist who learned the art of pottery wheel-turning at the age of 11 from his father, Raffaele Apicella. His father also known as "Filuccio" has been a master wheel-turner for over sixty years and is renowned for creating his own unique style, which is still appreciated worldwide.
As he grew older, Benvenuto honed his artistic and creative skills by collaborating with the most prestigious ceramic companies and in 1986 he became World Champion in the "Tornianti di Faenza" competition.
In 2014, he earned the Master Craftsman qualification and is certified to teach workshop courses. His shop and laboratory are located in the Amalfi Coast, and are frequented by painters, sculptors, and avid collectors of artistic ceramics.
